Intel powered smartphones to start at Rs 7 000

Intel is planning to launch budget smartphones in India, with prices staring at Rs 7,000.  The company is said to be partnering with handset makers for developing the devices with its chips. According to Intel South Asia Managing Director, Sales and Marketing Debjani Ghosh, the upcoming devices will have touchscreen and run on Android OS. The Intel powered budget smartphones are expected to be available in the second half of 2013.
Earlier this year, Intel has launched Lava Xolo, in partnership with Indian handset maker Lava. Apart from Lava, Intel has also partnered with Google owned Motorola to launch Motorola Razr i. Ghosh said, ”the first handset with Lava that we launched was a premium one. We learnt that it was important to have a portfolio and offer choice to the user. We will not have entry-level handsets but our smartphone range will be priced upwards of Rs 7,000.”
